Download PDFTraditional storage and backup solutions usually focus on restoring data after an incident. That leaves a dangerous gap between the first signs of an attack and the point where IT can respond. By then, files may already be encrypted, stolen, or damaged.
BrickStor SP is designed to close that gap by helping organizations detect suspicious behavior earlier and remediate damaged or missing files from clean snapshots.
What makes BrickStor SP different
- Built-in security and compliance at the storage layer, rather than added later through separate tools.
- Patented Active Defense and Cyber Vaulting technologies for real-time protection and resilient recovery.
- Policy-based, immutable snapshots that enable much faster file restoration than backup-only approaches.
- User activity monitoring, advanced auditing, encryption, key management, and end-to-end data integrity.
- Support for Attribute Based Access Controls (ABAC) for classified and tagged files.
- Support for SMB, NFS, and S3 workflows across appliance, SAN gateway, virtual, and cloud deployments.
Why snapshots are better than backups during an attack
When speed matters, restoring files from recent snapshots is often the faster recovery path. RackTop's patented bulk cyber remediation and recovery feature selects which files to remove from the live file system, and which files and versions to restore to it from the immutable snapshot.
Backups remain important for broader recovery and retention, but snapshot-based restoration is typically the better first response when the goal is to contain damage and return users to service quickly.
Restore clean files quickly from recent snapshots.
Contain incidents before they become widespread outages.
Recover directly from storage, not only from longer backup workflows.
Why BrickStor SP over other NAS vendors
Most NAS vendors sell performance, capacity, and availability first, then rely on external security and backup layers to fill the gaps. BrickStor SP embeds cyber resilience into the storage platform itself.
| Category | BrickStor SP | Traditional NAS Vendors |
|---|---|---|
| Protection model | Integrated cyber defense at the storage layer. | Security often added through separate tools. |
| Recovery path | Rapid, intelligent restoration of individual files from immutable, policy-based snapshots. | More dependent on backup workflows, or on whole-snapshot restores. |
| Threat response | Designed to detect, contain, and remediate earlier. | Commonly focused on capacity and uptime, not data availability. |
| Compliance and visibility | Built-in auditing, monitoring, and encryption. | Varies by platform and add-on ecosystem. |
| Deployment flexibility | The same secure features as appliance, SAN gateway, VM, or cloud instance. | Varies by vendor, with differing features and security models. |
- Turnkey appliance for secure NAS in data center or ruggedized form factors.
- SAN gateway to add secure Cyberstorage for file to existing SAN infrastructure.
- Cloud deployment or tiering for hybrid architectures with Transparent Data Movement.
- Virtual storage appliance support for hypervisors and hyperconverged infrastructure.
BrickStor SP combines enterprise NAS performance with patented cyber defense, immutable recovery, compliance support, and flexible deployment: protect unstructured data earlier, recover files faster, and depend less on backup-only recovery when time is critical.
