Active Defense Technology Overview
Patented storage-layer security that evaluates trust on every file operation and stops attacks in real time.
Active Defense is RackTop's core security technology — integrated directly into BrickStor SP at the I/O layer. Unlike endpoint or network security, it operates at the point where data is written, making it impossible for an attacker to bypass by compromising the operating system, a backup agent, or a user session.
- Per-Operation Trust EvaluationEvery file operation is evaluated in real time against behavioral baselines — client IP, user account, file activity patterns, and other identifiers — before the operation is permitted to complete.
- Sub-Second ResponseWhen anomalous behavior is detected, Active Defense terminates the offending session immediately — typically within one second, before ransomware can encrypt more than a handful of files.
- Behavioral Threat DetectionContinuous behavioral analysis identifies malicious patterns — ransomware encryption signatures, bulk exfiltration, credential abuse, and lateral movement — without relying on signatures.
- Zero Trust at the I/O LayerEvery access request is treated as potentially suspicious until verified. Trust is evaluated continuously, not just at login — a compromised session can be blocked mid-operation.
- Proactive on Primary StorageActive Defense operates on live primary storage, not just backups or snapshots — stopping attacks before they affect production data rather than detecting them after the fact.
- Drop-In DeploymentIntegrates with existing NAS infrastructure as a virtual machine, dedicated appliance, or cloud deployment — no network architecture changes required.
- SIEM & SOAR IntegrationReal-time alerts feed into existing security operations workflows via SIEM and SOAR integrations — Active Defense events appear alongside your other security telemetry.
